LIT

Leaders in Training

Dates: July 7-12, 2024

-What can I expect?
Would you like to serve at Rivers Edge Camp and are turning 14-17 this year? If so, then LIT is for YOU!
To clarify, applicants do NOT register for LIT. Applicants apply to serve for various weeks and then based on their age (14 – 17), they are automatically registered to attend LIT. If you are (turning) 18, and haven’t attended LIT before, you will likely be asked to attend if you are serving for the more than 1 week.
If you are wanting to serve at any of our camps, whether as a counselor, in the kitchen or on maintenance, then plan to attend LIT training. For those that are over 17, if you are serving at camp for the summer, you are encouraged to attend LIT, but it is not required.
LIT Training is an opportunity to grow spiritually and get stretched as you learn about serving at Rivers Edge. LIT is a 2-year program designed to raise up the next generation of Godly servant-hearted kingdom builders.  You’ll get practical camp experience and have the opportunity to serve in many different areas of camp. You’ll also have fun hanging out with fellow LIT’s and building relationships that last a lifetime!

Training – Week of July 7th – 12th
Dive into scripture and learn biblical qualities that apply to camp work and camp ministry. Put these qualities into practice, serving behind-the-scenes in different ministry zones at Rivers Edge. Participate as a group in camp activities and in the evening, spend time around the campfire doing devotions, worship, debriefing, and giving your testimonies.

Serve…
Once you have successfully completed LIT (yes, you get to go through an interview at the end), you will have the opportunity to serve the rest of the summer. It may be counselling (may have certain age requirements), in the kitchen, in housekeeping or doing grounds keeping.

School Credits

We are excited to offer our LIT participants the opportunity to earn high-school credits in Alberta Ed’s Off-campus Education Program this summer. The course is called Work Experience, credits are hours based and the students can earn 1 credit for every 25 hours of participation in the program (to a daily maximum). They can earn these credits through Chinook Learning Services.

Chinook can offer these credits to students in any school jurisdiction in Alberta (public, catholic, charter, private, and homeschooled).

Note: Students must be 15 years of age or older to participate in the program.

Sylvia Hayward is our key contact person for the Chinook Learning Services summer credit program; if you have any questions, please email her at sjhayward@cbe.ab.ca.

In order to register your child, you need to complete the forms attached to this email. You can complete them on the computer, then print, scan, and email to Sylvia (preferred), or fax them to us at camp.
